A good mom morning routine can make a HUGE difference to how you handle your day-to-day life.
As a mom, it’s important to start your day off on the right foot. This means setting yourself up for success with some good morning routine habits.
If you can get into a groove and establish some healthy routines, you’ll find that your day goes more smoothly and you’re less likely to feel overwhelmed or stressed out. Here are some tips to help get you started!

1. Get started the night before
Before you head to bed, begin thinking about everything you need to do the following day. Create a plan of attack for your to-list, errands, and other responsibilities.
Getting organized with your day helps reduce stress and makes you more productive. You’ll wake up knowing what you need to get done. There won’t be any room for sitting around and wasting time, deciding what to do and what to procrastinate on.
2. Be the first one up
Moms who aren’t morning people may find this hard, but getting up before the rest of the house gives you time for yourself. This can be impossible to find during a busy day!
Give yourself an hour before the kids wake. Use this time to wake up, enjoy the sunrise and the birds chirping, and just get mentally prepared for the day. There are so many self care ideas for moms you can include in this free time.
One trick to getting out of bed earlier: set your alarm clock out of arm’s reach. This means you will have to get out of bed to shut it off. Just don’t be tempted to crawl back under the blankets!
3. Drink some water
After not getting all liquid all night, 16 ounces (just 2 cups) of lemon water is a great start for your day. Start with this before you jump to the caffeine! I make sure to get my water in after getting out of bed, before I’ve done any other actives in my morning routine.
Adding just one half of a lemon to your water each day offers a range of health benefits, such as:
- Improving digestion with the natural acids found in lemons
- Aiding in weight loss as it increases metabolism and reduces coffee and juice intake in the mornings
- Promoting healthy cells with the phytonutrients and powerful antioxidants in the fruit
- Boost immune system with a healthy dose of Vitamin C
- Assisting proper function of kidneys through citric acid and by promoting proper hydration
4. Get some activity in
It can be tempting to just get out of bed to pile up on the sofa, phone in hand. Checking email and Facebook can wait – you want your mom morning routine to be one that helps you get ready to tackle the day!
Instead, put your phone in your pocket and get a little exercise. This can be as simple as going for a brisk walk, doing some light yoga or stretching, or even taking the dog for a walk.
You’ll get your blood flowing, wake up your body and mind, and set yourself up for a more productive day.
5. Take a shower
It can be tempting to trudge through the day in the loungewear your slept in. However, this can keep that comfortable, lazy feeling in your mind – not a good mental status when you are trying to be productive!
Instead, take a shower every morning. Enjoy the feeling of the hot water and getting clean. I would recommend using part of your kid-free hour to do this, so you can relax without hearing “I want breakfast!” coming through the bathroom door.
If you don’t have time for a full shower, you can still clean up each morning. Use a dry shampoo, wash your face, and change into a clean outfit before starting your day.

6. Eat breakfast
This is one of the most important mom morning routine habits! You may want to skip this meal because you don’t have time, but it is essential that you fuel your body for the day ahead.
Eat a sensible breakfast of eggs, whole wheat toast, oatmeal, or yogurt. This will give you sustained energy and help you focus on your tasks.
7. Enjoy some quiet time
Having a little downtime to yourself in the morning can work wonders for your mind. It gives you the time to meditate or mentally prepare for the day. If you enjoy journaling, this 10-15 minutes is an excellent time to write down your thoughts.
If you can, get outside to enjoy this peaceful time. The fresh air can help you breathe easier and feel ready to take on the day.
